The radial fan arrangement of the abrasive flaps offers many advantages when sanding surfaces. The flexible fans of the abrasive fleece roller adapt optimally to the surface of the workpiece being sanded. This creates an even sanding pattern over the entire surface. Since only the edges of the abrasive flaps come into contact with the workpiece being sanded, for example a metal surface, only the edges are worn. Fresh edges of the grinding fleece roller are therefore constantly available for grinding.

To achieve an even grinding pattern, it is important to grind at the correct speed. This must not exceed the maximum permissible speed for the SM 611 S cylindrical flap wheel for satin finishing, which depends on its diameter. The working speed must not be too low so that the flaps of the roller are not pressed against too large a surface. Adhesion to a large surface leads to increased friction and thus heating of both the cylindrical flap wheel for satin finishing and the workpiece being ground. An even grinding pattern is then no longer produced, and the cylindrical grinding wheel wears out very quickly.

One abrasive grain for grinding different materials
Cylinder flap wheels for satin finishing have fan-shaped abrasive flaps on which there is an abrasive grain made of electrocorundum. Electrocorundum is aluminium oxide and is produced synthetically for abrasive materials. Due to the irregular crystal structure, a block grain is created, which breaks off in pieces from the tip during grinding. This type of abrasive grain is hard and durable. This makes it suitable not only for grinding metal, but also many other materials.
