WSM 617 angle grinder
WSM 617: Flap wheels for grinding steel, stainless steel, paints, plastics, and wood
This type of mounted flap wheel can be used with all standard angle grinders for face and peripheral grinding. These angled flap wheels are suitable for grinding:
-
steel,
-
stainless steel,
-
paints,
-
plastics, and
-
wood.
Mounting the angled flap wheels on angle grinders is quick and easy, requiring no additional tools.
Versatile grinding options
These mounted flap wheels are available in a wide range of grit sizes. This allows them to be used for both coarse grinding of steel and other materials, as well as fine grinding. Coarser grits remove more material, resulting in a rougher surface finish. Such coarse-grit flap wheels are ideal for tasks like fast weld grinding and paint layer removal. For fine grinding of plastic or wood surfaces, finer grit flap wheels are recommended.
Optimal results with the right grinding speed
Grinding performance using angle grinders depends on several factors—grit size is just one. Another important factor is the cutting speed, which is determined by the rotational speed of the grinder. Each angled flap wheel has an optimal RPM range. If this speed is maintained during grinding, centrifugal force causes the abrasive flaps to lift radially. Material is then removed only by the edges of the flaps. As the edges wear down, fresh abrasive grain is constantly exposed, ensuring continuous performance.
Always sharp abrasive grain for consistent grinding
This results in a very uniform grinding pattern that remains consistent over time. For both face and peripheral grinding, it's important to note that—due to their design—these flap wheels offer a more precise grind than endless belts. Therefore, to achieve a similar surface finish, you should select a flap wheel with a grit that is two to three grades coarser. This applies to steel as well as other materials.
